When we lay a brick at the Cultural Centre, we are not simply raising walls. We are making room for the faith that carried our parents through hard times, for the language our children speak with their grandparents, for the traditions that tell us who we are.
Our church has always been more than a place of worship. It is where we have baptised our children, mourned our departed, celebrated our feasts and carried one another’s burdens. The Cultural Centre grows out of that same life. A place where faith, culture, education and community can be handed on, whole, to the next generation.
Far from Romania, these things do not preserve themselves. They survive only where a community decides they must. This building is that decision, made visible.
Rooted in the Orthodox faith and inspired by the example of Saint Hierarch Andrei Șaguna, the Romanian Cultural Centre exists to keep the faith alive and active in the daily life of our community; to pass on the Romanian language, culture and identity to children born and raised far from Romania; and to serve every person who walks through its doors with the love of Christ.
Live the Faith : The Centre carries the life of the Church into every day of the week: catechesis, prayer groups, spiritual guidance and formation for all ages.
Preserve our Identity: Language classes, culture, music and tradition so that being Romanian remains a living inheritance, not a fading memory.
Serve with Love: Charity, hospitality and open doors: a place that serves the parish, the wider Romanian community, and our neighbours in Nottingham alike.
Saint Hierarch Andrei Șaguna (1808–1873), Metropolitan of Transylvania, gave his life to exactly what this Centre stands for. In an age of great hardship for Romanians, he founded and organised hundreds of Romanian schools, printed books and the first Romanian newspaper in Transylvania, and defended both the Orthodox faith and the identity of his people — convinced that faith, education and culture stand or fall together.
Canonised by the Romanian Orthodox Church in 2011, he reminds us that a community which teaches its children remains a community. His mission is now ours.
The Centre is, before all else, a child of the Church. It extends the life of our parish beyond the Sunday Liturgy. A place of catechesis, prayer and spiritual formation for every generation, so that faith is not merely inherited, but truly lived.
Here, the traditions that define us will live on far from home: the Romanian language, our music and dance, the traditional dress, and the feasts that have shaped our people for centuries.
Through the Romanian school, the parish school, the library and workshops, we give our children both roots and wings. The confidence of knowing where they come from, and the learning to become all they are called to be.
A home open to all: shared meals, charitable projects, support in times of need, and friendships that last a lifetime. Because no one should have to walk alone.
Step by step and gift by gift the Centre is becoming real. The total value of this project exceeds £500,000 and it has been raised not through grants alone, but by the faithful, one gift at a time. Every stage completed so far was built on community support, and the final stretch depends on it still
The parish begins the official process to transform the Parish House within our church grounds into a Romanian Cultural Centre.
After overcoming many challenges, the Local Authority grants full approval for the project.

Kitchen & Hall Construction & Expansion is mostly done with spacious Multipurpose Hall
It is taking shape from the inside out. The electrical installation and the ventilation system are currently being fitted
1. Education Rooms & Romanian School: Classrooms where children learn the Romanian language, faith and history and where the parish school finally has a home of its own.
2. Library & Reading Corner: A growing collection of Romanian books, from children’s stories to theology, open to every family.
3. Youth Activities & Clubs: A safe, welcoming space where young people meet, learn, play and belong.
4. Cultural Events & Celebrations: Traditional feasts, concerts, national days and folk evenings that keep our heritage alive and loud.
5. Conferences & Talks: Religious, pedagogical and community conferences, seminars and guest speakers.
6. Exhibitions: Displays of Romanian art, craft, photography and history, our story, told on our own walls.
7. Charity & Social Projects: A working base for the parish’s charitable outreach: food support, collections, and help for families in need.
8. Community Gatherings: Shared meals from a fully equipped kitchen, celebrations, and the everyday togetherness that makes a parish a family.
